A charge air hose carries pressurised air from the turbocharger to the intercooler and from the intercooler to the intake manifold. It is also called a turbo hose, boost hose or intercooler hose.
The hose has to hold boost pressure at high temperature, usually with some oil mist inside it. A split or a loose coupling leaks boost: the engine loses power, may smoke under load and often whistles or hisses when accelerating.
